FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
I'VE NEVER DONE BOUDOIR BEFORE AND AM FEELING INTIMATED/NERVOUS/ANXIOUS. WHAT'S YOUR ADVICE FOR A FIRST-TIMER?
You’re not alone – the majority of my clients are first-timers! We all start somewhere, and I’m glad you're considering me for your first boudoir experience (I promise you’ll be hooked and end up doing more). My best advice is to take the leap of faith and have confidence in yourself and your photographer. I will literally pose you from head to toe, and demonstrate every pose so that you can see what you need to do. With that said, I have been a nervous/anxious boudoir first-timer. I would describe myself as a risk-taking, outgoing, introvert with a passion for lingerie. That being said, I used to run away from cameras because I felt so awkward and insecure. When I modeled for my first boudoir shoot (a present for my now husband), I put on my first set of lingerie, and I remember walking out of the dressing room, throwing out some extra dry humor (the more nervous I am, the drier it gets), and jumping right in with my nerves still on full blast. After 10 minutes, 2 poses, and seeing a picture on the camera I felt like I was on top of the world. That one shoot went from a present to my husband to the best thing I did for my confidence (and the reason I shoot boudoir now).
WHO WILL BE AT THE SESSION? SHOULD I BRING A FRIEND?
We are an all-female team, and the only people present will be me and the makeup artist/hairstylist (although sometimes my dog Monster will jump in my car as a stowaway and will be in a separate room in the studio). You are more than welcome to bring a friend for moral support as long as she doesn’t interfere with the shoot. However, if I feel like she is interfering with the shoot too much, I will have to ask her to leave.
DO I NEED TO BUY NEW OUTFITS? WHAT DO I WEAR? WHAT KIND OF ACCESSORIES SHOULD I BRING?
All of these questions are something I will answer in both our pre-shoot meeting and my outfit, shopping, and week of guide. You don’t necessarily have to go out and buy new outfits, but I’ve found that this depends on the person. If someone is a 10 on the risqué scale and wants to take some full nude photos, they may only need 1 matching bra and panty set. If you are like one of my friends who didn’t own a black lace bra or any matching bra and panties, but was a 3 on the risqué scale, I may recommend a set. If someone is a lingerie hoarder like me, they may not need to buy anything. That being said, I keep a small closet of lingerie in select sizes that will be available. In terms of accessories, you do you. My bracelet stack rarely leaves my wrist, and accessories are a great way to bring your personal style into a shoot. If you like dangly earrings, bring them. Long, layered necklaces, bring them. Passionate about designer shoes, you may be my favorite person, bring all of them.
DO I HAVE TO USE YOUR MAKEUP ARTIST AND HAIRSTYLIST, OR CAN I DO MY OWN?
Unless you are doing our Jackpot Session, I require that you use my makeup artist and hair stylist. Not only is it a good way to relax and get in the right state of mind before your shoot, but it also ensures your pictures will come out as expected. The makeup used for professional photos, and especially boudoir, is very specific. The price for hair and makeup is included in all of my packages (except for the Moody package).
HOW MUCH DO PEOPLE NORMALLY SPEND ON PRODUCTS? WHERE CAN I FIND YOUR A LA CARTE PRICING?
Clients who choose our experience session typically spend $1,500-$2,500 on products. Additional product spend on collections varies widely from client to client, but is typically $1,000-$1,500. I've found almost every client wants more of the images in their galleries or more ways to show off their new badass images (I know I did when I did my first boudoir shoot).I prefer to talk through pricing over the phone. If you are interested in receiving the price sheet please call/text me at (305) 812-1055, email me at nikki@outlawboudoir.com, or fill out the form on our contact page.
CAN I SHOW YOU MY PINTEREST BOARD WITH POSING IDEAS BEFORE MY SESSION, OR WILL YOU RECREATE THIS IMAGE FROM ANOTHER PHOTOGRAPHER?
You are more than welcome to share your Pinterest/vision board so that I can review it ahead of time and keep your vision in mind while I shoot. However, I have a shooting flow that I have curated throughout my career. Trying to recreate images doesn’t fit with my flow as well as making sure that your experience and images are unique and tailored to you.
DO I HAVE CONTROL OVER WHERE AND HOW MY IMAGES ARE DISPLAYED? DO YOU KEEP THEM PRIVATE OR DO YOU PUT ANY ON YOUR WEBSITE OR SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNTS?
DEFAULT SETTING - PRIVATE. For real. I edit all images myself and keep the hard drives safely stored (in a false shelf in my office that only opens for a certain magnet pattern so that I can channel my inner spy. Not even joking.). All photos are shared in a private gallery. A very discreet and reputable, all female company assembles my albums, boxes, etc. If you are comfortable sharing your images, I will be your biggest supporter. Showing other women your art and leading by example has an empowering ripple effect. I will only ever share the images you choose with your consent, and you can opt to share only faceless photos.
DO YOU SHOOT OUTDOORS?
Yes! I love to shoot outdoors. If this is something you are interested in, please call or text me at (305) 812-1055 to talk more
WHERE DO YOU SHOOT?
I shoot in various locations that have been carefully curated around the Aiken, SC area and South Florida. I also travel frequently, so if you are outside either of these areas, please contact me to set up a shoot. Occasionally, I will set up a destination shoot, where I put together a group of wanderlust clients to explore a beautiful location while doing photoshoots.
WHAT IF I LOVE YOUR IMAGES BUT I’M NOT COMFORTABLE TAKING MY CLOTHES OFF FOR PHOTOS?
If that’s the case, you still have options! I also do glamour sessions. You can dress up in your favorite outfits and we can take some killer (and still sexy photos). Call or text me at (305) 812-1055 to talk more.
WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY?
The deposit is non-refundable. If there is a conflict or emergency during your scheduled shoot, please contact me about rescheduling or other solutions. I understand that life happens and gets complicated.
I’D LOVE TO DO AN INTIMATE BOUDOIR SESSION WITH MY SIGNIFICANT OTHER – DO YOU OFFER THIS?
The majority of my sessions are with individual women; however, I get the occasional request to photograph couples in an intimate shoot. I don’t offer this on the website, nor advertise, because it isn’t something I will do with just anybody. In order to offer a couple’s session, I would have to gauge my personal connection with the woman during a solo shoot. While I connect with almost all of my clients, the trust level during a couple’s shoot requires a deeper understanding. If this is something both new and existing clients are interested in, please call me to talk more!
